The Dailekh District Court has sentenced Khagendra Bhandari, 25, of Chamunda Bindrasaini Municipality-5, and Gobinda Bahadur Shahi, 24, of the same place, to 18 years’ imprisonment each, a fine of Rs. 700,000 each, and compensation of Rs. 100,000 each for raping a 13-year-old girl.
According to Ganesh Prasad Regmi, Information Officer at the Dailekh District Court, the bench of Judge Kul Prasad Pandey on May 11, 2026, also added five years’ imprisonment for gang rape. Following a detention hearing on August 31, 2025, both convicts were held in judicial remand at Dailekh Prison. The victim’s family had filed a complaint at the District Police Office on August 8, 2025, accusing them of raping the 13-year-old girl on August 7, after which police arrested them the same day. After completing the investigation, police, through the District Government Attorney’s Office, filed charges of rape against them. The victim girl underwent a health examination at Dailekh Hospital on August 8.
Following the detention hearing on August 31, Judge Kul Prasad Pandey’s bench also ordered that the accused be remanded in judicial custody. Birendra Bahadur Malla, registrar of the Dailekh District Court, stated that the conviction and sentence were based on the forensic laboratory report, police investigation, and court proceedings, all of which established the offence.
