A victim woman of an inter-caste marriage incident has received financial support from the INSEC Sudurpashchim Provincial Office, Dhangadhi, on April 20, to facilitate her access to legal procedures.
To ease her access to legal processes, INSEC provided financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 to Seema Chunara, 26, of Chure Rural Municipality–6.
According to the victim, her husband, Ekendra Bohara, 22, of Godawari Municipality–2, Attariya, had taken her to Bengaluru, India, where they got married and lived together as husband and wife for two years. However, under family pressure, he assaulted her brutally on January 29, labeling her as a Dalit woman, leaving her critically injured, detaining her in a room in India, and then fleeing. Following the incident, the victim has filed a case for the establishment of a marital relationship at the District Court, Kailali, against her husband.
After her husband abandoned her in India and went missing, her maternal family rescued her and brought her back to Nepal. However, due to the weak financial condition of her family, she faced difficulties in pursuing legal procedures. Citing this, the victim submitted an application on April 20 to the INSEC Sudurpashchim Provincial Office, Dhangadhi, seeking financial support to facilitate legal action. Based on the application, INSEC studied the case and provided financial assistance in support of her pursuit of justice.
INSEC Sudurpashchim Provincial Coordinator Khadak Raj Joshi stated that INSEC has been providing financial assistance through its Human Rights Help Desk to ensure that victims are not deprived of justice due to financial constraints and to enhance victims’ access to justice.
