The Sudurpashchim Provincial Government and Bardagoriya Rural Municipality handed over houses to 21 freed Kamaiya families for safe housing on April 19.
The houses were constructed through a joint initiative of the Sudurpashchim Provincial Government and Bardagoriya Rural Municipality, Habitat for Humanity Nepal, and the National Dalit Network, and were handed over to 21 freed Kamaiya families.

Chairperson of Bardagoriya Rural Municipality, Karna Bahadur Rawal, stated that through the partnership of the provincial government, local government, and various organizations, houses have been constructed for 21 freed Kamaiya families living in Ranikhunda of Bardagoriya Rural Municipality–3 for safe housing. He added that efforts are continuously being made for the rehabilitation of freed Kamaiya, Haliya, and freed Kamlari, as well as to address their other issues.
He said, “During my tenure, I have planned to construct and hand over safe housing for freed Kamaiya, squatters, and landless people living within the municipality. For this, collaboration with supporting organizations is ongoing.”
Chairperson of the National Dalit Network, Mohan Wada, stated that houses have been constructed and handed over for safe housing to 21 freed Kamaiya families who possess identity cards and land ownership certificates but were unable to build houses.

Punita Chaudhary, Western Regional Head of Habitat for Humanity Nepal, stated that safe housing has already been constructed and handed over to 252 households of freed Kamaiya, freed Haliya, economically disadvantaged Dalits, and landless people across various local levels.
