Provision of Free Education with Residential Facilities for 11th and 12th Graders

Laligurans Municipality has arranged free education with residential facilities for Grade 11 and 12 students through Basanta Secondary School.

The school has made provisions to provide free education, including meals and accommodation, targeting students studying in Grades 11 and 12.

With the construction of a modern hostel building in the school, students’ living arrangements have become safer and more organized. This has made it easier for students coming from distant areas.

Mayor Arjun Mawohang of Laligurans Municipality stated that the provision of free education with accommodation and meals is especially targeted at students from remote areas and economically weak families.

According to Mayor Mawohang, the program has been launched with the objective of ensuring equal educational opportunities for students within Basantapur Municipality. The municipality will bear all expenses of students residing in the hostel.

“For students in hilly regions, access to education is still a challenging issue. When schools are far away, not being able to reach on time is the biggest difficulty. To ensure our students do not have to face such problems, the municipality has arranged education with residential facilities,” the municipality stated.

Due to financial constraints and geographical distance, many students are unable to continue their studies, and are often compelled to move to cities like Dharan, Biratnagar, or Kathmandu in search of quality education. The school stated that this initiative has been launched to end such compulsion.

To make free education effective, the school has been providing services without charging any fees from admission to teaching and learning, said Principal Nabin Adhikari. Under the municipality’s plan to develop an “educational hub,” Basanta Secondary School is being developed as a model school.

With the operation of the hostel, students have expressed that they are now free from financial worries and can focus on their studies. Kusum Limbu, a student from Laligurans Municipality–6, said that it has become much easier to study with free food and accommodation.
