Kaushalya Yadav, 12, a Grade 8 student at Saraswati Secondary School located in Babia, Inaruwa Municipality-9, has alleged that a teacher had beaten her and torn her school uniform.
According to the victim’s side, the incident occurred on March 18, when school teacher Shyam Prasad Sah allegedly beat her and tore her uniform.
The school had called a parents’ meeting on March 19, and the victim stated that on March 18, while students were being made to clean the playground, the teacher beat her and tore her uniform, accusing her of not participating in the cleaning work.
The victim’s father, Nageshwar Yadav, has alleged that after the incident, the school principal, Umesh Prasad Sah, and the accused teacher threatened his daughter not to tell anyone about the incident.
The accused teacher has denied the allegations of beating, stating that while he gestured with a stick to hurry the cleaning work, the girl’s school shirt got torn in the process.
The victim’s side has further alleged that after the incident, the accused teacher hid the torn shirt and gave her another old shirt.
Following the incident, the parents have demanded action against the accused teacher.
The Constitution of Nepal, 2015, under Article 39, defines and guarantees the rights of children. Sub-article (7) of the same provision prohibits subjecting any child to mental or physical torture or punishment at home, school, or any other place.
