Ram Piyari Panthi, alias Leeladevi, 59, who had been living in Guwahati, Assam, India, was arrested by police on March 10 on the charge of taking four women to India through the Kakarbhitta border point for the purpose of trafficking.
Police arrested Panthi on the charge of attempting to take the four women to India in front of the Mechi Customs Gate in Mechinagar Municipality–6 by luring them with the promise of preparing Indian documents to send them to Hong Kong via India.
According to DSP Khagendra Bahadur Khadka of the District Police Office, during police questioning, the victims stated that they were being taken to India with the promise of preparing Indian documents and sending them to Hong Kong, after which the accused was arrested for further investigation.
The rescued women have been kept at the safe house of Aafanta Nepal, while the accused has been kept in police custody for investigation.
