An Election Officer’s Office has been established at the Provincial Election Office, Biratnagar, on December 31, 2025, for the election of National Assembly members.
For the National Assembly election scheduled for January 25, 2026, Judge Bhishmaraj Prasai of Morang District Court has been appointed as the Election Officer, and the Election Officer’s Office has accordingly been set up.
The Election Commission had designated Judge Bhishmaraj Prasai of Morang District Court as the Election Officer for the National Assembly member election on December 23.
With the establishment of the Election Officer’s Office, Assistant Election Officer Hem Bahadur Budhathoki stated that work related to the National Assembly election has already commenced.
According to the Election Commission’s schedule, the appointment of the Election Officer was made on December 30, 2025, and the Election Officer’s Office was established at the Provincial Election Office, Biratnagar, on December 31, Assistant Officer Budhathoki said.
Assistant Election Officer Budhathoki further informed that the election schedule includes publication of the final voter list on January 3, 2026, filing of claims and objections from January 7 to January 11, 2026, and allocation of election symbols on January 12, 2026.
In accordance with the provision that elections must be held at least 35 days prior to the completion of the term of National Assembly members, whose term for 19 members ends on March 4, 2026, the government has announced January 25, 2026 as the election date for the National Assembly.
From Koshi Province, the terms of Indira Devi Koirala elected from the UML under the women’s group, Gopibahadur Sarki Achhami elected from the Maoist Centre under the Dalit group, and Devendra Dahal elected from the other group, will expire on March 4, 2026.
Assistant Election Officer Hem Bahadur Budhathoki stated that preparations have begun for the election of three seats to be filled from Koshi Province.
Since only members of local levels and the Provincial Assembly are eligible to vote in the National Assembly election, there will be only one polling station and two polling centers in Koshi Province, Assistant Election Officer Budhathoki said.
In Koshi Province, a total of 274 voters from local levels, including mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons, and 93 members of the Provincial Assembly will cast their votes.
For the National Assembly election, there are a total of 367 voters in Koshi Province, comprising 274 local-level representatives and 93 provincial lawmakers.
For the National Assembly member posts, votes will be counted with a weight of 53 for Provincial Assembly members and 19 for chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities and mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities. Voting on January 25, 2026, has been scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
