Baby Kumari Mahato, 23 of Barhathwa Municipality-4, has filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Barhathwa, on December 18, alleging that she was subjected to beating on December 3, 2025, by her husband, Subas Kumar Mahato, 24, and her 15-year-old sister-in-law on the pretext of demanding additional dowry.
Due to the assault, the injured victim received treatment at Sarlahi District Hospital, Malangawa, from December 4 to 6.
The victim’s mother, Bhikhiya Devi Mahato, stated that although Rs. 100,000 in cash and four annas of gold were given at the time of marriage, her daughter was repeatedly subjected to physical and mental torture for additional dowry.
Following the incident, the accused has absconded, and a search is underway, according to DSP Niranjan Bhattarai of the Area Police Office, Barhathwa.
