Police arrested Buddhi Ram Darai, 47, from Chitwan and currently residing in Ratnanagar Municipality-7, on December 4 for the charge of killing former police constable Sita Kadel,46, of Besishahar Municipality-2, Bhakunde. Darai had been absconding after the incident and was arrested from Belhiya, Siddharthanagar Municipality-1 of Rupandehi, with support from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Kathmandu. Locals had informed the police on April 13, 2025, after Kadel’s house had remained locked for three to four days. During a subsequent search of the residence, police discovered her body.
The accused had previously been convicted in a killing case on November 28, 2010, for which the Gorkha District Court sentenced him to life imprisonment with confiscation of property on July 4, 2011. The Supreme Court later revised the sentence to 12 years of imprisonment on March 27, 2015. After serving his term, he was released from Dhading Jail on June 18, 2019.
The post-mortem of the body was conducted on 14 April 2025 at Province Hospital, Lamjung, and the cremation was carried out the same day at the Marsyangdi River. According to the Lamjung District Police Office, a killing case has been registered against the accused at the District Court, and an additional seven-day remand has been granted to advance the investigation.
