Police arrested Ashish Bhandari, 24, of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-3, Aman KC,30 of the same area, and Bharat Bam,24, from Purchaudi Municipality of Baitadi and currently residing in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-3, on November 18. They were arrested on the charge of setting fire to the Kailali District Court during the protests on 9 September.
According to DSP Rajkumar Singh of the District Police Office, Kailali the protesters had set fire to and vandalized the Court building, court’s furniture, two courtrooms, drawers, and around 30,000 case files were destroyed, while computer and information technology equipment was looted.Additionally, four government four-wheel vehicles and four motorcycles parked within the court premises were damaged. After the cases were filed, the police took control, but 180 motorcycles and four four-wheelers that had been kept at the court were also set on fire.
DSP Singh added that the accused were arrested based on a complaint filed by the District Court requesting action against those responsible for the involvement in criminal disturbances. They are currently under investigation, with a 10-day extension of custody.
