Police arrested nine people, after the death of Khadga Bahadur Rai,33, of Menchhayayem Rural Municipality-6, Tehrathum, who was undergoing treatment at the Naya Lakshya Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Mangalbare, Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-11. Rai, who had been seriously injured due to beating inside the center, died during treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, on November 5.
According to the Area Police Office, Dharan, CCTV footage from the scene showed Rai being tied with a rope and restrained with a combat belt and a bedsheet, leaving him unable to move his hands and legs. Based on the footage, police arrested nine individuals involved in the incident including the operator.
The individuals arrested include the rehabilitation center’s operator, Maniraj Rai,35,of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-8, along with Rakesh Pradhan, 25, Shrawan Rajdhani,20, Nikesh Sunuwar, 40, Suren Limbu, 41, Hastabahadur Bishwakarma,38, Biru Limbu, 37, Sachin Rai, 35, and Bijay Chaudhary,27, of Sundarharaincha, Morang. According to the Area Police Office, Dharan, the Sunsari District Court has extended their custody by five days for further investigation.
