Inmates Escaped from Various Jails Re-arrested

On October 28, Rupandehi Police arrested several inmates who had escaped from the Central Jail during the Gen-Z protests. According to the District Police Office, Rupandehi, the inmates had fled after the protesters vandalized and set fire to various jails. They were later arrested through coordinated efforts by the District Police Office and subordinate police units in Rupandehi. Those arrested include Sitaram Yadav,49, of Siyari Rural Municipality-3, Rupandehi, who had escaped from the Central Jail, Jagannathdewal, Baburam Pasi,24, of Kotahimai Rural Municipality-3, Nirumaya Malla,21, of Gaidahawa Rural Municipality-9, , Dharmendra Lodh,35, and Ganpat Lodh, 47,  both from Siyari Rural Municipalit-4, Janaki BK,45, of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-6, Tilu Gaire,28, of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-2, Pritam Kumar Harijan,22, of Gorakhpur, India, who had escaped from Nawalparasi Jail, and Gorakh Yadav,41, of Omsatiya Rural Municipality-4, escapee from Nakhu Jail.

Similarly, DSP Ganesh Sapkota of the District Police Office, Rupandehi, stated that those arrested also include Sagar Khadka,27, of Buddhabhumi Municipality-1, Kapilvastu, who was serving a sentence for rape at the Central Jail, Kshetra Bahadur Thapa,31, of Sainamaina Municipality-2, of Makwanpur District Jail for a rape case, Marles Wach Lenohorist,33, a South African national accused in a drug-related case and serving time at the Central Prison, and Purnatwasi Loniya,65, of Gaidahawa Rural Municipality-6, who had been convicted in a killing case and was also serving his sentence at the Central Jail.

According to DSP Sapkota, individuals accused in rape, killing, drug-related, and theft cases who had escaped from the Central Jail in Kathmandu, Makwanpur District Jail, Nawalparasi Jail, and Nakhu Jail were arrested from various locations within the district. All of them have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings. He further stated that since the inmates who escaped during the protests might attempt to flee to India through the Nepal-India border, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have intensified surveillance along the border areas. DSP Sapkota further stated that surveillance has been heightened not only at the main border checkpoints but also at smaller routes that could potentially be used to enter India. He added that the Indian authorities have also been requested to extend their cooperation in this matter. Earlier, police had arrested 14 inmates who had escaped from various Jail across the country and handed them over to the respective correctional facilities.
