Return of Escaped Inmates from Kanchanpur Jail Reaches 388

So far, 388 inmates who had escaped from the district jail have returned, including 371 men and 17 women, according to Acting Administrator Ram Datta Joshi. Following the jail break, 99 inmates remain at large, among them 17 women. Of those who have returned, 63 were re-arrested by police from various locations across the district and brought back to the jail.

Currently, 14 Indian nationals are serving sentences in the jail, while 17 Indian inmates remain at large. Acting Administrator Ram Datta Joshi stated that inmates who do not return voluntarily within the designated time will face legal action under the Prison Act, 2022, and other applicable laws.

Joshi also emphasized that anyone harboring, hiding, or providing shelter to escaped prisoners will be held legally accountable, and necessary actions will be taken against them as well. Despite repeated public appeals by the jail administration for voluntary return, some inmates remain uncontacted, prompting police to intensify search and re-arrest operations.
