A clash between police and gold traders in Sonarpatti, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-5 on the night of October 17, left Surendra Kumar Bhandari, 45, Chairperson of the Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, injured. According to Bhandari, the incident occurred when police raided Sanjay Payal Jewelers in Sonarpatti, and local gold traders attempted to intervene. Police responded with a baton charge, resulting in injuries to Bhandari’s head, right leg, and abdomen. He is currently receiving treatment in the ICU of Janakpurdham Provincial Hospital.
According to DSP Ganesh Bahadur Bam of the District Police Office, Dhanusha, the police raid was conducted based on a special tip-off and in coordination with the Revenue Investigation Department, Pathlaiya. Bam stated that the traders became aggressive, forcing the police to fire seven rounds of warning shots and deploy two tear gas.
