Three Killed, 92 Injured in Gen Z Movement in Pokhara

During the Gen Z movement in Kaski, three people were killed and 92 others were injured in Pokhara. The deaths occurred amid vandalism of government offices and private properties during the protests in Pokhara.

According to the Kaski District Administration Office, 92 people were injured during the movement. Among the deceased is Bijay Lama, 43 a resident of Bhanu Municipality–10, Tanahun. According to Kaski Police, he was injured during the vandalism and arson at the Kaski District Police Office on the night of the 9th. A gas cylinder explosion inside the police office burned about 70 percent of his body.

Although originally from Tanahun, Lama had been living in Pokhara Metropolitan City–16. He was immediately taken to the Western Regional Hospital under the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, but died during treatment, informed SP Navin Karki, Chief of Kaski Police.

Two others who were not involved in the protest also lost their lives. Swosthani Khadka, 26, died when protestors set fire to the commercial building of the Anshubhira Group at Lakeside, owned by Gandaki Province’s Minister for Social Development, Bindukumar Thapa. Swosthani worked at a spa operating inside the same building. According to police, her permanent address is in Baiteśhwar Rural Municipality–8, Dailekh.

Another victim was Sanju Nagarkoti, 35. She died in a fire at an auto showroom in New Road operated by Dhruva Thapa, brother of Minister Bindukumar Thapa. The blaze started from the ground floor, trapping her inside the building where she burned to death. Nagarkoti had recently started working at the showroom; before that, she had been employed as a domestic worker. Police stated that her permanent address is in Sindhupalchowk.
