President Ramchandra Paudel has urged political parties to focus on the upcoming House of Representatives election to safeguard the nation, the people, democracy, and the constitution. During an all-party meeting held at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas, on 10 October with representatives of the interim government, he advised political parties to prepare for the election scheduled for 5 March. The President also suggested that the government ensure necessary security arrangements to guarantee a free and fair election in a peaceful and fear-free environment, according to his press advisor, Kiran Pokhrel. President Paudel emphasized that all sides must unite to successfully conduct the upcoming election in order to safeguard democracy. He urged political parties to raise any doubts or ambiguities they may have during the meeting. The President cautioned that exploring alternatives to the election could lead the country into uncertainty and instability. He also called on all political parties to approach the public with a clear commitment to addressing the genuine demands of the Gen-Z protest, rather than creating confusion or mistrust.
Leaders of the political parties participating in the meeting affirmed that parties committed to democracy are always ready to participate in elections. They emphasized the need to ensure peace, security, and a free and fair environment for the upcoming polls. The leaders urged the government to guarantee that the elections are conducted in an impartial, independent, and fear-free atmosphere, fostering public trust in the democratic process.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki stated that the government is fully aware that elections cannot be held without the participation of political parties, emphasizing its commitment to conducting the polls in a free, fair, and fear-free environment. She assured that the government would ensure the necessary peace and security arrangements for the elections. Prime Minister Karki said, “The Gen-Z group represents our sons and grandsons, we must understand the reasons behind their dissatisfaction and embrace change accordingly. If political parties move forward with this understanding, it will serve the best interests of the country and the people.”
