On October 7, 2025, Subash Shah from Birgunj threatened to kill journalist Parbatraj Ghimire of the YouTube channel 4cast TV, using abusive language, over news coverage related to Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen).
Journalist Ghimire had received the threat from Shah regarding the topics he had published on his YouTube channel, 4cast TV.
Regarding the incident, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Kathmandu Chapter, issued a statement on October 8, strongly condemning the death threats made by a group against its member journalist Parbatraj Ghimire and journalist Nazarram Maharjan of the weekly publication “Kirtipur Sandesh.”
The statement said, “This is not a matter of personal grievance but a targeted attack on independent journalism and the right to freedom of expression, which challenges the core values of democracy and the fundamental principles of press freedom.”
It further stated, “Even though there is a legal provision to file complaints with the Press Council Nepal if there is dissatisfaction with news coverage, engaging in threatening and criminal behavior is a blatant violation of the press code of conduct and prevailing laws.”
