Election Schedule Made Public for March 5

The Election Commission has approved the schedule for the upcoming election of members to the House of Representatives to be held on March 5, 2026. According to the schedule issued on October 6, the Commission has stated that the program for registration of political parties has been set from November 17 to November 26. In a press release issued on October 6 by the Commission’s Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, it was mentioned that for the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) electoral system, the office of the election officer will be established starting from January 16, 2026.

Similarly, the period for election campaigning has been fixed from February 15 to March 2, and the prohibition period on election campaigning will begin from March 2, according to the press release. Voting will take place on March 5, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the vote counting will begin after the collection of ballot boxes from both electoral systems. For the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system, the office of the election officer will be established on December 1, and the closed list submission program has been scheduled for January 2 and 3, as stated in the Commission’s press release.

Since the legal provision allows only political parties already registered with the Commission to register for election purposes, the notice mentions that interested parties wishing to participate in the election must obtain their party registration certificate by November 16.
