412 Families Displaced by Floods in Rautahat

The continuous rainfall on October 4 and 5, 2025, has caused significant damage in the district. The district headquarters, Gaur, remains submerged. Gaur became inundated after floodwaters from the Bagmati River to the east and the Lalbakaiya River to the west entered the area. According to Superintendent of Police Netramani Giri from the District Police Office, 412 families have been displaced so far due to the flooding.

The highest number of displacements has been recorded in Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality, where 236 families have been affected. More than 1,000 houses in that area were flooded. Wards 4 (Pachrukhi) and 5 (Bardahwa) of the rural municipality, located between the Jhajh Khola and Bagmati River, have been the most affected. The floods have also destroyed paddy crops in the area.

In Rajdevi Municipality, which is connected to Gaur, 89 families have been displaced, according to SP Giri. Wards 8 and 9 have suffered the most impact. The flooding has caused major damage in municipalities including Gaur, Rajpur, Gujara, Katahariya, Ishnath, Madhav Narayan, Gadhimai, Brindaban, Maulapur, and Fatuwa Bijaypur, as well as in Yamunamai Rural Municipality.

The floods have also disrupted major roads across Rautahat district. Water has accumulated along the road from Gaur Customs to BP Chowk. The main road connecting Maulapur, Sonarniya, and Harnehiya–Kalaiya has been swept away. With heavy rainfall, a large section of the blacktopped road was washed away, resulting in complete disruption of vehicular movement on that route, SP Giri said.

Several government offices in Gaur have been submerged due to the flooding. The area was inundated after floodwaters from various parts of the Bagmati and Bakaiya Rivers entered the region. According to Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Khadka, although instructions were given to reopen offices from Tuesday, the situation remains unsuitable for service seekers to access them.

The offices affected include the District Administration Office, Gaur Municipality, Land Revenue Office, Survey Office, Infrastructure Office, District Court, Government Attorney’s Office, Gaur Customs, District Election Office, and District Postal Office, among others. Similarly, the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 11 Headquarters in Hajmaniya has also been completely submerged, as confirmed by Armed Police Superintendent Ramhari Adhikari. Border Outpost (BOP) offices in Lakshmipur Belbichuwa, Gaur, Auraiya, and Sarmajuwa have also been flooded. In Rautahat, one person has died after drowning in a river, and three others have lost their lives due to lightning strikes.
