The government has issued Acid and Other Harmful Chemicals (Regulation) Ordinance 2077 BS. The ordinance, which was prepared to take strict action against the perpetrators of the acid attack, was issued by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on September 28.
The Acid and Other Hazardous Chemicals (Regulation) Ordinance is related to the sale and distribution of acid.
Similarly, the ordinance amending some Acts on Criminal Offenses and Criminal Procedure has been prepared for harsher punishment against acid attackers.
Now, the acid attack on the face is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Similarly, provision has been made to pay Rs 1 million as compensation to the victim through the perpetrator. Now on, the seller has to get permission from the district administration office to sell and distribute acid.
After the ordinance was issued, Muskan Khatun, a victim of an acid attack, said that the law brought by the government has raised hopes that victims like her would get justice and the incidents of such heinous attacks would be controlled.
