The Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons has extended the period of complaint on enforced disappearances till mid-January.
“People who have been left behind from filing a complaint within the time period mentioned in the information published by this commission many times before are requested to file a complaint at the Commission’s office, Pulchowk, Lalitpur by mid-January with the proof of disappearance.”
The commission has stated that arrangements have been made to file complaints through online medium as well. The Commission has notified that more information can be obtained by filing a complaint at [email protected] or by calling the helpline number number-16600122111.
After the Comprehensive Peace Accord was signed between the then CPN-Maoist and the Government of Nepal on November 21, 2006, a Commission was formed in 2015 to investigate the cases of enforced disappearances.
Article 5.2.3 of the Comprehensive Peace Accord states that “Both sides agree to make public within 60 days of the signing of the agreement information about the real name, caste and address of the people ‘disappeared’ or killed during war and to inform the family about it.”
It took eight years to form the Commission after the Comprehensive Peace and the Commission is still urging the victim to file the complaints.
