During the Gen-Z protest on September 9, vandalism and arson caused nearly ten crore worth of damage to the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers of Sudurpaschim Province.
According to Information Officer Jagdish Joshi of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office, the arson and vandalism resulted in losses amounting to Rs 9,74,51000. He informed that seven four-wheeled vehicles, 13 government motorcycles, and three scooters kept within the Chief Minister’s Office premises were burned and destroyed. The arson completely destroyed the Chief Minister’s chamber located on the second floor of the building. Only accounting-related documents and some administrative files from the third floor were saved. He further stated that tables, chairs, computers, printers, televisions, cupboards, sofas, as well as windows, doors, carpets, marble, and all other items in the Chief Minister’s Office were destroyed.
It has been reported that some items were also stolen during the protest. According to the damage assessment prepared by the Chief Minister’s Office, kitchen utensils from both the office and the residence were also found missing. During the protest, most of the government offices in Dhangadhi were set on fire. Additionally, furniture such as tables and chairs in the assembly hall, where provincial meetings are held, along with computers, laptops, digital cameras, video cameras, photocopy machines, printers, air conditioners, and other equipment, were burned and destroyed, leaving the hall in ruins.
