Press Statement
Our serious attention has been drawn by recent incidents of arson and vandalism in schools and school buses in different districts by ANNISU-Revolutionary, the student wing of CPN-Maoist. Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) condemns such incidents which occurred risking even lives of children.
These incidents which go against human rights carried out by the student community who are the makers of educated, conscious and future Nepal encourage the next generation to adopt same methods. Hence, we assert that this is a serious issue.
Questions have been raised on the intentions of such student bodies since they resorted to arson and vandalism without holding dialogue with the organizations responsible for solving problems in education sector. It is necessary that all concerned should keep in mind that all acts against the dignity of rule of law are counter-productive to state and citizens.
The education sector of the country is rife with malpractice, problems and challenges.
However, these won’t be solved by destroying property of individual, organization or the state. We would like to urge the political parties to train this to their student wings.
The student community needs to be clear whether the main problem lies in the name of the education institution or the misuse of the state investment in education sector. We also request the student community to be alert that only superficial issues might be raised and main issues sidelined.
We heartily and sincerely request parties not to make the education sector a medium to fulfill their demands. At a time when schools have already been declared as Zone of Peace, we call on the government to take necessary legal action against those involved in such violent incidents and protect the rights of students to get education in a peaceful atmosphere.
