Take Action against the Assailants
Press Statement
A group has attacked the Sundhara-based office of Nagaraik daily and manhandled journalists working in the daily over a news story. According to news, the assailants manhandled chief editor of Nagarik daily Kishor Nepal, journalist Sudashan Sapkota, Swarup Acharya, Sabina Shrestha for “publishing news against them”. We condemn the attack on the media and journalists associated with it for publishing news.
It is against the press freedom and freedom of expression to resort to attack or hooliganism without adopting necessary measures when there are plenty of legal processes to seek if there is dissent or concern regarding published news.
We strongly rebuke this attack on the fourth state of the government and call on the Nepal government to bring those involved in the attack to justice. We also demand that the safety of medias across the country and journalists be ensured.
