Press Release
Our attention has been drawn towards death threats by an unidentified group of people to the chairperson of Blue Diamond Society, Sunil Babu Pant, and its staffs Bhumika Shrestha and Swastika. The state’s silence in case of intimidation to the active organization like blue diamond society, its president and workers working for the rights of Nepal’s sexually minority people is highly regrettable.
Swastika, a worker of Blue Diamond Society was beaten up by an unidentified group of people in Chitwan a few days ago. The incident reported immediately to the police, however, the police administration remains apathetic to bring the perpetrators for legal treatment. Swastika said that she had never seen the people who assaulted her before the incident occurred.
It is the state’s responsibility to protect the people’s right to live with dignity. State should take protection of the Human Rights Defenders as a special obligation. We urge the Government of Nepal to take an immediate legal action against the perpetrators involved in the incident.
