Floods and Landslides Displace 42 Families

The monsoon entered Koshi Province by July 19. became active in the Himalayan district of Sankhuwasabha District, displacing 42 households due to natural disasters.

A total of 42 families have been displaced during the two weeks of floods and landslides. The flooding and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall have also damaged two health institutions, three schools, and one Red Cross building in the district.

Floods and landslides have displaced both government buildings and private households in different parts of the district, according to District Police Office DSP Kumar Prasad Mainali. Across the district, 68 houses have been damaged, while crops have been affected at 37 locations due to the disasters.

As the risk of landslides increased, residents of Tenchong, Hoyengla, Chepchewa, Newatar, Yangsim, and Gogane have left their homes and are taking shelter collectively in safer locations. Likewise, landslides have displaced three households in Khadbari Municipality, two in Makalu Rural Municipality, two in Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality, and one in Chainpur Municipality, DSP Mainali said.

Landslides have also damaged Kalika Secondary School in Newatar, Silichong Rural Municipality–1, and Bageshwori Basic School in Silichong–4. After the Kalika Secondary School building sustained damage from the landslide, the education of 170 students has been disrupted.
