A total of 28 households, along with a community health unit, have been displaced due to a landslide in Silichong Rural Municipality Ward No. 1. The displacement occurred in the Lower and Upper Tenchong settlements following continuous rainfall that triggered floods and landslides.
According to Bhupal Raj Mewahang, 28 households from Lower and Upper Tenchong in Ward No. 1 have been displaced.
The landslide has also put the community health unit located in Tenchong at risk, said Dhan Bahadur Rajbanshi.
Police reported that the land on which the community health unit stands has started to erode due to the landslide, placing the facility at significant risk.
The landslide displaced the families of Man Kumar Rai, Nau Bahadur Rai, Man Bahadur Rai, Dhan Ram Rai, Tilak Prasad Rai, Naresh Kulung, Yogendra Rai, Bijay Rai, Manidhan Rai, Santosh Rai, Nandu Rai, Dhan Bahadur Rai, Kalpana Rai, Ashram Rai, Prabisuk Rai, Agraj Rai, Purnaman Rai, Fagendra Rai, Baburam Rai, and Bindur Rai from Lower Tenchong, Ward No. 1.
In Tenchong, Ward No. 1, the five-member family of Kunti Rai, the seven-member family of Dhanpurna Rai, the six-member family of Mangal Bahadur Rai, the four-member family of Suk Prasad Rai, the five-member family of Mira Rai, the three-member family of Dhanman Rai, and the household of Arun Sangam Rai have also been displaced. Following the appearance of large cracks on the hillside above the settlement, local residents were evacuated to safer locations with the assistance of the Sisuwa Police Post and the rural municipality.
On Monday, a 10-member team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Bhujel from the District Police Office Sankhuwasabha was deployed to the landslide-affected area.
Silichong Rural Municipality has issued a public notice urging residents living in high-risk areas to remain vigilant and move to safer locations if necessary.
Chairperson Bhupal Raj Mewahang has called on the Koshi Provincial Government and the Government of Nepal to provide immediate assistance for the assessment of flood- and landslide-affected settlements, evacuation to safe locations, relief distribution, and rehabilitation efforts.
