Bijay Baudel, Treasurer of the Palpa branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and a journalist, received a death threat via phone from an unknown number on the night of June 16, 2026, allegedly in connection with a news report he had published.
The victim filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Palpa, on June 17, 2026, demanding the identification of the perpetrator and legal action against those responsible.
According to journalist Baudel, the threat came after Madi View Media published a news report on June 16 regarding a collision between an electric vehicle (EV) and a bus in Aryabhanjyang, Baganasikali Rural Municipality–3, Palpa.
The Palpa branches of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and Press Chautari Nepal have separately issued statements condemning the incident. They stated that such threats against journalists pose a challenge to press freedom and the citizens’ right to information.
Regarding the incident, the District Police Office, Palpa, stated that an investigation is underway. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhimlal Bhattarai of the District Police Office, Palpa, informed that efforts to identify and locate the person who made the threat are ongoing. He stated that the incident has been taken seriously and that necessary investigations are being carried out.
