Severely Disabled Parbat Woman Sunita Receives Citizenship at Home

Twenty-four-year-old Sunita Bik of Phadkedhunga, Jaljala Rural Municipality–4, Parbat, who has lived with a severe disability since birth, received her citizenship certificate at her home. The certificate was delivered on June 14, 2026, after her family informed authorities that she could not be transported to the District Administration Office in Kusma due to her condition, which requires her to remain bedridden around the clock.

The citizenship certificate was handed over in the presence of Chief District Officer Laxmi Prasad Paudel, office staff, and local Ward Chairperson Bharat GC. Chief District Officer Paudel stated that the service was provided at home to ensure that individuals unable to visit government offices are not deprived of essential documents such as citizenship certificates. He noted that Sunita’s condition was extremely severe, making it impossible to require her presence at the district headquarters. According to him, obtaining citizenship will make it easier for her to access social security allowances and other state-provided support.

Sunita’s father, Kala Sunar, said that her condition was caused by polio and that treatment at various hospitals had not improved her health. He explained that the family faces significant challenges because of her complete dependency, as one person must be constantly available to feed and care for her, making it difficult to earn a livelihood. He added that while Sunita’s two elder brothers are healthy, she, the third child in the family, appeared healthy during her first eight months before her health gradually deteriorated and her disability worsened.

Ward Chairperson Bharat GC of Jaljala–6 informed that, now that her citizenship certificate has been issued, she will be able to receive regular social security benefits through the ward office.
