Accountable and Citizen-Oriented Service Delivery Through a Republican System of Governance: President Paudel

President Ramchandra Paudel has stated that strengthening accountable, citizen-oriented service delivery through the federal democratic republican system of governance is a national necessity today, while achieving the goals of good governance, development, and prosperity.

President Paudel, in a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 19th Republic Day on May 29, emphasized the need for cooperation among all levels of government, the private sector, and civil society to achieve the constitutional vision of social justice, economic prosperity, and inclusive development.

In his message, he said: “On the occasion of Republic Day, I call upon all political parties, civil society, and all concerned stakeholders to contribute from their respective fields towards preserving Nepal’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity, autonomy, national interest, and dignity, while achieving sustainable, broad-based, and equitable economic growth and building a civilized and cultured society.”

He also expressed respect for the revered leaders of political parties who led various movements for the establishment of the republic, and highly appreciated the contributions of citizens, communities, and political activists who participated in those movements. He further stated: “I pay heartfelt tribute to all known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the establishment of the democratic republic. I wish that this historic day further strengthens mutual trust, cooperation, and the spirit of national unity among all Nepalis.”

Recalling the historic day of May 28, 2008, when Nepal was declared a republic through the first meeting of the elected Constituent Assembly as a result of the long struggle and sacrifice of the Nepali people, Republic Day is observed every year on May 28/29 (Jesth 15).
