Teaching and learning activities have been affected after a landslide that occurred on May 18, 2026, in Nepka village of Chankheli Rural Municipality–5, Humla, which damaged the building of the basic school located in Daphe of the same rural municipality.
Local resident Jasbahadur Tamang stated that the landslide, triggered by a sudden hailstorm during the night of May 18, caused damage to the school building, cultivable land, and farmers’ sheds as well.
The sheds belonging to the Ward Chairperson of Chankheli Rural Municipality–5, Harkadhan Tamang, and Dhansingh Tamang were also buried by the landslide. The sheep and goats kept there were also affected. Chief of the District Police Office, DSP Shankar Khadka, informed that the exact details of the damage caused by the landslide have not yet been confirmed.
He stated that a police team has already departed for the landslide-affected area. Chankheli Rural Municipality, located northeast of Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, consists of four villages, namely Tallopali, Mathillopali, Piplang, and Nepka. It takes around five hours of walking from the municipality center, Piplang, to reach the remote Nepka village.
