During the Gen-Z protest on September 9, 2025, an inmate who had escaped from Jhumka Jail was arrested on May 16, 2026.
Police arrested Prakash Damai, 37, of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City–17, who had been serving a jail sentence at the Regional Jail Office, Jhumka, Ramdhuni Municipality–5, in a rape case, said DSP Chandrabahadur Khadka of the District Police Office.
Damai was arrested from the Patnali area of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City–17, DSP Khadka said.
The District Court had, on December 20, 2022, sentenced him to 10 years in jail, fined Rs. 200,000, ordered Rs. 100,000 in victim compensation, and Rs. 12,000 to be deposited in the victim relief fund.
After the court verdict, while serving his prison sentence, Damai escaped from Jhukma Jail on September 9, 2025, during the opportunity created amid the protest.
