National Assembly Members Call for Long-Term Solution to Squatter Problem

Members of the National Assembly, during the zero hour of the meeting held on May 13, 2026, drew the government’s attention to controlling inflation, creating employment opportunities, and finding a long-term solution to the problems faced by landless squatters.

The lawmakers also urged the government to focus on reducing incidents of caste-based discrimination and operating sick industries. Member of Parliament Kamala Pant sought the government’s response on preparations to resume operations at the Gorakhkali Rubber Industry, considered a matter of national pride.

Similarly, MP Jayanti Rai drew the government’s attention to the proper management of landless squatters displaced during anti-encroachment drives. MP Durga Gurung urged the government to find a long-term solution to the squatter problem.

Likewise, MP Nar Bahadur Bista called on the government to introduce measures to end forced foreign employment and create employment opportunities within the country. MP Narayan Datt Mishra demanded the government’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and democracy.

Similarly, MP Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar urged the government to take effective measures to control incidents of caste-based discrimination.

MP Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) stated that no one should undermine Parliament. MP Yuvaraj Sharma drew the attention of the House and the government toward issues including good governance, inflation control, and development works.

MP Rajendra Laxmi Gaire suggested that the government be more sensitive toward the health sector, while MP Sonam Gelzen Sherpa demanded action against vehicles violating traffic rules within Singha Durbar.
