On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Federation of Nepali Journalists organized a solidarity march today. The march, held under the slogan “Building a Peaceful Future: Promoting Press Freedom for Human Rights, Development, and Security,” started from Maitighar Mandala and concluded at New Baneshwor, where it turned into a corner assembly.
At the assembly, National Human Rights Commission member Manoj Duwadi unveiled the annual report on the state of press freedom. He stated that the press and freedom of expression are integral parts of human rights, and the Commission would stand in defense if they are violated.
Federation of Nepali Journalists President Nirmala Sharma expressed the view that the press and freedom of expression are constitutional rights and should not be suppressed.
Nepal Bar Association President Prof. Dr. Bijay Prasad Mishra stated that if any obstruction or hindrance arises against the press and freedom of expression, they will provide legal remedies as well as moral support in favor of safeguarding that freedom.
