In Rampur Municipality, the long-standing compulsion of spending hours traveling to the market to collect social security allowances is gradually coming to an end. After the municipality started distributing allowances directly from ward offices, daily life has become easier for local residents.
Rampur Municipality has launched a campaign to distribute social security allowances from the wards themselves. Earlier, beneficiaries had to travel to the Bazar of Rampur’s Badaj to collect their allowances. For the elderly, persons with disabilities, and economically vulnerable citizens, this journey itself was a major challenge. It involved transport fares and additional expenses for food and snacks. Now, receiving the allowance from their own nearby ward has brought happiness among locals. Than Bahadur Pata Magar of Ward No. 9 of Rampur Municipality said that it has become much easier as he now receives the allowance close to his home.
The municipality has implemented this campaign in all wards in collaboration with Nepal Investment Mega Bank Limited. Along with allowance distribution, biometric verification services through the National Identity Card system have also been operated. Locals appear more satisfied as they can access two services from the same place. “Now there is neither expense nor hassle,” said local resident Bhimishara Nepali.
Mayor Raman Bahadur Thapa of Rampur Municipality stated that the service has been introduced, particularly targeting senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
