The government has started removing the squatter settlement in Thapathali using excavators from April 25, 2026. As part of the government’s campaign to clear encroached public land and river corridor areas, bulldozers have been deployed to demolish illegal structures built in the settlement.
Nepal Police and municipal police personnel are themselves carrying the belongings of squatters and helping to move them to safer locations.
To ensure that essential items inside the houses, such as clothes, utensils, gas cylinders, and other necessities, are not buried or damaged, the police are actively involved in transporting the goods themselves.
