There has been a shortage of salt in two rural municipalities in the southern region of Humla. The shortage in Tajakot and Adanchuli rural municipalities has occurred because the company responsible for transporting subsidized salt from the Salt Trading Corporation Limited failed to deliver it on time.
A local resident of Tajakot Rural Municipality–3, Jhul Shahi, stated that the shortage was caused by delays in transporting subsidized salt by the Salt Trading Corporation. He complained that the salt received a year ago has already run out, and this year’s supply has not yet been delivered.
Due to the failure of the Salt Trading Corporation to supply salt, consumers have been forced to purchase it from the market at a rate of Rs. 40 per kilogram. Last year, the corporation distributed 50 kg of salf per household.
Adanchuli Rural Municipality is also facing similar problems due to the non-arrival of subsidized salt. A local resident of Adanchuli Rural Municipality–2, Jang Rokaya, said that the shortage has caused difficulties. He stated, “The subsidized salt that we receive once a year has not arrived yet this year, causing problems.”
Raj Bahadur Lama, chief of the Salt Trading Company in Humla, informed that out of the allocated quota of 479 quintals of salt for Tajakot Rural Municipality, only 340 quintals have been transported to the rural municipality centre so far.
