Students of Saraswati Secondary School, located in Jairgon, Sarkegad Rural Municipality-1, have been affected in their studies since last August/September. The teaching and learning of Grade 9 and 10 students at the school have been disrupted for nearly seven months due to the failure to fill vacant positions for Mathematics and Science teachers.
After the absence of Mathematics and Science teachers, the teaching activities for Grade 9 and 10 students have been halted since Bhadra, complained Pavitra Budha, a Grade 9 student. According to her, the lack of classes for seven months has created a situation where students may not even be able to pass the upcoming SEE examination. There are 29 students in Grade 9 and 15 in Grade 10. Due to the inability to recruit teachers, students appearing in this year’s SEE examination are facing serious difficulties, said Subas Rawat, Chairperson of the School Management Committee. It has already been about a month since the new academic session started and classes resumed.
Although the ward had stated that additional allowances could be arranged to address the issue of teacher recruitment, he expressed regret that teachers could still not be hired. The school’s principal, Jay Bahadur Bam, stated that despite publishing vacancy notices eight times to recruit teachers, the positions remain unfilled, affecting students’ education.
He further mentioned that no applications were received even after announcing vacancies for secondary-level Mathematics and Science teachers. Despite repeated efforts to recruit teachers and search for candidates, no one has been willing to apply. He added that a ninth vacancy notice was published on March 17, yet no one has come into contact so far.
