Death of Morang Jail Inmate During Treatment

Sanam Tamang, 37, of Urlabari Municipality–3, died during treatment, according to jail authorities.

Tamang, who had been serving his sentence at the Morang District Jail Office in Biratnagar Metropolitan City–8, died on February 25, 2026, while undergoing treatment, said Jail Administrator Gaurav Dhungel.

After experiencing respiratory problems, Tamang was admitted to Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar on February 24. He died during treatment. Dhungel stated that Tamang had been suffering from chronic respiratory illness and was regularly taking medication.

The Morang District Court had sentenced Tamang on October 2, 2025, to two years and six months imprisonment in a drug-related case. He was serving his sentence at the time of his death.

According to Administrator Dhungel, the family was informed immediately after his death. The family received the body on February 25 and performed the last rites the same day at Bakraha Ghat in Urlabari Municipality–4.
