Morang Court Judge Appointed at the Election Officer for National Assembly Election in Koshi Province

With the government preparing for the National Assembly elections on January 25, 2026, the Election Commission had appointed election officers in all seven provinces on December 23, 2025.

In Koshi Province, the Election Commission appointed Judge Bhishmaraj Prasai of Morang District Court as the election officer for the National Assembly member election.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, the election officer will assume office on December 30, and the election officer’s office will be established at the Provincial Election Office, Biratnagar, on December 31.

As the term of 19 National Assembly members is set to expire on March 4, 2026, the government announced January 25, 2026, as the election date, in accordance with the provision that elections must be held at least 35 days before the expiration of the term.

From Koshi Province, Indira Devi Koirala (elected from UML) and Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami (elected from the Maoist Centre) will have their terms ending on March 4, 2026.

Yubaraj Guragain, Chief of the Provincial Election Office in Biratnagar, stated that preparations have begun for the two seats to be elected from Koshi Province.

For the National Assembly election, the Election Commission has coordinated with district election offices to prepare necessary details such as polling stations, centers, and ballot boxes, according to Chief Guragain.

Preparations for the upcoming election started once the required materials were requested, Guragain added.

Since only local-level and provincial assembly members are eligible to vote for the National Assembly, Koshi Province will have only one polling location and two booths, according to Guragain.

In Koshi Province, there are 274 local-level leaders (mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons) and 93 provincial assembly members eligible to vote.

In total, Koshi Province has 367 voters for the National Assembly election. Votes are counted with the weight of 53 for provincial assembly members and 19 for local leaders (chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, mayors, and deputy mayors).
