The Election Commission has called on political parties wishing to participate in the forthcoming House of Representatives election under the proportional representation (PR) system to submit applications. The Commission published a notice on December 4, 2025, stating that the schedule for the PR system would begin on December 5, 2025, and accordingly, political parties wishing to participate may submit their applications from December 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM to December 8, 2025, at 4:00 PM, as per the approved election program.
The Commission has already established the office of the Election Officer at its Kantipath office for the PR system from November 29, 2025. Secretary Mahadev Pantha has been appointed as the Election Officer for this system.
The Commission will publish the list of political parties submitting applications on December 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Political parties submitting applications will be required to submit the closed list of candidates on December 27 and 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, according to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
There are now 90 days remaining until the election scheduled for March 5, 2026.
According to the schedule for the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) electoral system, the nomination papers for candidates will be registered on January 20, 2026. The list of candidates will also be published on the same day. Complaints against the nominations can be submitted on January 21, 2026.
The name list of candidates will be published on January 22, 2026. Similarly, candidates may withdraw their candidacies on January 23, 2026, and on the same day, the final name list will be published, and election symbols will be provided to the candidates.
The Commission is also preparing for the National Assembly election scheduled for January 25, 2026.
