Twelve inmates who had escaped from various jails across the country during the Gen-Z protests have been arrested in Gorkha. The District Police Office reported that seven were from Kaski Jail and three from the Central Jail, Jagannath Deval. According to Chief of District Police Office and Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur Bik, one inmate who had escaped from Tanahun Jail and one who had fled from the Juvenile Correction Home, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, were also arrested, processed, and sent back to their respective jail and correction home.
The inmates who escaped from Kaski Jail and were arrested in Gorkha include Vikram Nepali, Tenzing Rigdel Lama, Chewang Rizin Lama, Sonam Lyaljen Lama, Baburam Nepali, Rajesh Bishwakarma Sunar, and Sonama Dorje Lama, Superintendent Bik stated.
From the Central Jail, Jagannath Deval, Bharat Thakuri, Suman Sundas, and Bhuvan Tamang were arrested and sent back to the respective jail. Similarly, Vishal Uperkoti, who escaped from Tanahun Jail, and Susma Magrati, who fled from the Child Reform Home, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, were arrested in Gorkha.
Superintendent Bik informed that all those arrested were held for a short period in the detention cell of the Gorkha District Police Office, legal procedures were completed, and they were sent back to their respective jails. “Most of those arrested in Gorkha are from Gorkha, while some are from other districts,” he said.
He further stated that detailed information about the inmates who escaped during the protests is still being collected, and search operations are ongoing.
