The United Nations Organization in Nepal has expressed serious concern over the incident of rape and murder of the six-year-old girl in Bardiwas of Mahottari district.
The United Nations has strongly condemned the incident in a press statement issued on November 26 based on the news published in Nepali media.
Through the press statement, the Nepal office of the United Nations has urged to take legal action against the person involved in the crime by ensuring the legal process.
The statement also urged the protesters to keep their demands within the legal framework and the security forces to exercise restraint after accurately assessing the situation.
The body of Gulbasa Khatun, 6, daughter of Shahid Alam, who went missing from Shubham Basti of Bardibas Municipality-14 on November 22 was found in the night of November 23.
According to DSP Rajan Chapagain of the Area Police Office, Bardibas, the body of the girl had been found missing since the evening of November 22.
Three locals were injured when police opened fire on them during a protest rally on November 24 at Bardibas on the East-West Highway demanding action against the accused.
Buddhi Raj Neupane, 32, of Bardibas Municipality-1 has died in Kathmandu on November 24 while undergoing treatment.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a committee on November 26 to investigate regarding the incident during the protest against the murder of the girl in Bardibas. A three-member investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of the ministry’s deputy secretary, informed the ministry.
