As of October 8, the number of people infected with COVID-19 in Nepal has exceeded one hundred thousand. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the number of newly infected people has reached 1,676 with the addition of 2,059 people on October 9.
In terms of the number of infected people, Nepal has surpassed China. According to worldometer.com, Nepal is ranked 43rd among the countries with COVID-19 infection and China is ranked 47th.
Nepal ranks fourth among South Asian countries. Americans are the most infected in the world, followed by Indians.
According to worldometer.com, Bangladesh is ranked 16th and Pakistan is ranked 22nd. Of the more than 35 million COVID-19 confirmed cases, more than 27.5 million have been cured till date. Of those infected, more than 1.5 million have already died.
In Nepal, an average of 1.15 million people have been tested and out of 100,000 infected, 73,000 have been cured. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 600 people have died because of the virus.
Of the 27,000 active infected, more than 15,000 are in home isolation and 11,000 are being treated at hospitals and isolation centres.
Stating that the infection of COVID-19 has spread to the community level in the Kathmandu Valley due to overcrowding in the city, public health expert Dr Rabindra Sameer has stressed on adhering to the standards of public health.
He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs should launch a special campaign to ensure compliance and monitoring of public health standards. Testing should be expanded. Only positive messages should be provided. ‘
