Accused Arrested for Looting Police Weapons During Protest

Police arrested Bishwo Lingden,29, from Prashanti Tole, Damak Municipality-6, Saroj Puri,26, from Damak Municipality-9, and Pawan Hangsungwa,30, from Itabare, Ilam Chulachuli Rural Municipality-4 on 24 November for looting of two firearms and 20 rounds of ammunition from the Kathmandu police office. The weapons and ammunition were stolen from the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, on 8 and 9 September during the Gen-Z protest. 

A team from the Narcotics Control Bureau recovered a large-capacity type 54 Chinese pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition from Saroj Puri, of Damak Municipality-9,staying in a rented house in Damak Municipality-8, on 24 November. He was handed over to the Damak Police Station for further investigation.

During questioning at the Damak Police Station, Puri stated that he had given another weapon to Bishwa Lingden, the son of Congress leader Bishwadip Lingden from Prashanti Tole, Damak Municipality-6. Lingden was arrested from his home as per DSP Khagendra Bahadur Khadka of the District Police Office. During investigation Lingden revealed that he had sold the weapon to Pawan Hangsungwa of Ilam Chulachuli Rural Municipality-4 for Rs 20,000.

A joint team from the Narcotics Control Bureau branch office, Kakarvitta, led by Inspector Kumar Somesh Lamichane recovered a large-capacity type 54 Chinese pistol along with five rounds of ammunition. The weapon had been buried in a pit in the field and hidden inside a plastic bag.
