Bindra Shrestha, 75 of Dodhara Chandani Municipality-4, Mananiya Chowk, was killed by her son Hari Prasad Shrestha, 55, on the night of March 17, using a sharp weapon.
According to SP Khadak Bahadur Khatri of Kanchanpur District Police Office, the accused struck the mother on the head with a sharp weapon, causing her death. He also attacked his younger sister Bhagwati Majhi, 50, hitting her head and hand, causing injuries.
The victim’s family reported the incident to the police on the night of March 17. Although a police team reached the scene immediately, the accused had fled, and a search operation is underway, SP Khatri said.
The injured Bhagwati is receiving treatment at Mahakali Provincial Hospital, Kanchanpur, and preparations are underway to take the mother’s body to Kanchanpur District Hospital for postmortem.
Preliminary investigations by the Kanchanpur District Police Office indicate that the incident occurred due to a longstanding land dispute, which led the accused to attack his mother, killing her, and injure his sister.
