Over 60 Escapees from Tulsipur Prison Still at Large

During the protest, 68 prisoners who escaped after breaking out of jail are still at large, according to Tulsipur Prison authorities.

On September 9, during the protest, a total of 253 inmates broke open the prison gate and escaped. However, 184 of them have since been arrested by police from various districts and returned to custody. One inmate, who had fled and reached Nepalgunj, reportedly died after falling ill, informed jailer Gir Bahadur Sejuwal.

According to him, among the 68 absconding prisoners, 8 are foreign nationals, and the remaining 60 are Nepali citizens. Efforts are ongoing to locate them, he added. A search committee has been formed under the coordination of the Assistant Chief District Officer, with the involvement of police and other authorities, and it is actively engaged in the search operation.

At present, Tulsipur Prison houses 411 inmates across one women’s block and two men’s blocks, along with four dependent children under the age of five.
