Drinking Water Shortage in Kaski Jail

Inmates at Kaski Jail are facing a shortage of drinking water. During a visit by a government team to the jail on February 19, inmates requested proper arrangements for drinking water.

On the occasion of Democracy Day, the District Main Celebration Committee, Kaski, and the Provincial Election Office organized a fruit distribution program at the jail. During the same event, the prison administration revealed that the physical condition of the jail is deteriorating and that there is a severe drinking water crisis.

According to Prison Administrator Rajendra Sharma, the jail houses 683 inmates, but a regular water supply has not been ensured. He stated that the drinking water problem is acute and the jail buildings are in need of repair. Sharma also mentioned that during the recent youth movement, the number of inmates had reached 773, and many had escaped. Of them, 143 have yet to return. He further informed that there are currently 29 female inmates in the jail.

Chief District Officer of Kaski, Rudradevi Sharma, said that the grievances of the inmates would be addressed. She assured that the administration would take initiatives to resolve the problems raised by the inmates.

The program was attended by Provincial Election Officer Narayan Dhakal, Information Officer Rudra Neupane, Assistant Chief District Officer Shiva Lamsal, District Coordination Officer Navaraj Baral, and Kaski Police Chief Nabin Karki, among others.
