INSEC in People’s Movement II

April 24, 2024 By: Ramesh Prasad Timalsina

When the foundational structure of human rights underwent scrutiny, it led to the rise of democracy. This marks the day when, following the proclamation of King Gyanendra, who had wielded unchecked power for 19 days, democracy was established amidst the vigor of the people’s movement II.

Today is April 23, 2024, observed as Democracy Day. Democracy and human rights are recognized as mutually reinforcing. Amidst a political landscape marred by violent conflicts and the transition towards peace, there remains the poignant task of further advancing human rights-friendly initiatives.

During the 2005/06 movement, also referred to as the People’s Movement II, INSEC played a leading role in monitoring human rights and providing humanitarian assistance. The endeavors undertaken by INSEC during that period are showcased here.
