As the date of local level election is approaching, the incidents of violation of the election code of conduct are increasing in Surkhet. During the election, political parties are carrying out election-targeted activities ignoring the code of conduct.
Major political parties including CPN (UML), Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) are carrying out activities contrary to the election code of conduct.
During the election campaign, they are carrying out activities such as rallies, have been using children in the campaigns, using flags that are larger than specified and also hanging them in vehicles.
Parties including UML, Congress, CPN (Maoist) Centre, Unified Socialists and RPP have involved school children in the election campaign with flags at the local level including Birendranagar, Bheriganga and Gurbhakot of Surkhet.
Earlier, the political parties of Surkhet had expressed their commitment not to carry out any election-oriented activities in violation of the code of conduct, but they have been reluctant to implement it.
Similarly, teachers and staff of various schools have resorted to soliciting votes for the party on social media, not only physically, but also at the door-to-door campaigns of candidates seeking votes.
Regarding the violation of election code of conduct, the office of the Chief Election Officer of Surkhet Chief Election Officer Dr. Rajendra Kumar Acharya said that so far three complaints have been received verbally and work is being done to address them immediately.
